Home Clinics - 2024
Join us at Rancho Notso Grande for 5 days of horsemanship, good food, loads of fun, and a healthy dose of Texas hospitality! Located west of Paducah, Texas, we have access to hundreds of acres of beautiful West Texas country through which to ride. We would love to share our knowledge of the local landscape, as well as the area’s rich history.
We encourage each participant to bring two horses: a colt/young horse for the colt-starting/problem solving class, and a more experienced horse for the horsemanship class. The colts will receive a foundation from which they can develop into their respective careers. Each young horse will be given the time and attention needed to help them progress. Most riding in the horsemanship portion will be done outside, in varied terrain. It is an excellent opportunity for both horse and rider to gain confidence in themselves and one another. Within this intimate setting, we will be able to address any specific situations, problems or concerns, such as trailer loading, tying, or getting a horse used to a rope, just to name a few. We have a mechanical flag, and will have cattle on hand to have fun developing cow working/roping skills. If you are unable to bring a horse, and would like to lease one, please contact us so we can make arrangements. We also have a limited number of saddles available for lease.
In addition to the horsemanship, expect to feel like part of the family while you’re here. We have recently constructed a new cookhouse, complete with a large kitchen, dining room, and a full bathroom. There is a nice covered porch on which to enjoy a glass of tea, while waiting for the ring of the dinner bell. Our new bunkhouse consists of 3 different themed rooms, each furnished with two sets of bunk beds. There is an additional full bathroom connected to the bunkhouse. A covered porch, with a couple of comfy benches for resting your feet, runs the entire length of the building. Decorated with pictures of our horses, Sheryl's flair for design is an undeniable element both inside the buildings and the surrounding gardens. Enjoy laughter, conversation, and a cold drink with us and other attendees after a long days ride. Be sure to soak up a sunset over the Tongue River bluffs, it is truly a sight to behold. Sheryl is an award winning cook, whose skills cover just about every aspect of the culinary arts. From Dutch ovens at the chuckwagon, to smoking, grilling, baking, candies, and pastries, anything that emerges from Sheryl's kitchen will tickle your taste buds. She has passed her love for cooking onto both of our daughters. Tiffany has been cooking fr our home clinics for the past several years. Expect to enjoy three, full, home-cooked meals each day. Not just a sandwich a day here! If you leave hungry, it really is your own fault.
All clinics include an all-day ride, in which we will trailer to the location. Lunch will be delivered to a designated spot. During the ride there will be plenty of time for working on your Horsemanship, conversation, and picture taking, as you breathe in the fresh West Texas air.
One evening of each clinic, we will have musical entertainment. Feel free to kick back and enjoy the music, or scoot your boots on the porch-turned-dance floor! There's nothing better than dancing to some good music under the Texas stars!
The last day of the clinic we like to mix it up a little and partake in some friendly horsemanship competition. Horseback Easter Egg hunts, and Horsemanship Challenges are great platforms to showcase the work you've been doing all week. And there are great prizes included!
So don’t miss this excellent opportunity to join us for learning, fellowship, and fun! We look forward to seeing you at the RNG!

The course is designed for the horse and rider to succeed, and possibly push your comfort zone boundaries. But keep your eyes open, you never know what the McLaury's may throw at ya...Apple Bobbing, anyone?!
